Here’s a classic, creamy recipe for Scalloped Potatoes—rich, cheesy, and perfect as a side dish:

🥔 Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 4 medium)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
    • Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Sauce
    • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour to form a roux, cooking 1–2 minutes.
    • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
    • Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook until slightly thickened.
    • Stir in 1/2 cup of cheese if using.
  3. Layer Potatoes
    • Arrange half of the potato slices in the dish.
    • Add a layer of onions if using.
    • Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes.
    • Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
  4. Bake
    • Cover with foil and bake 40 minutes.
    • Remove foil, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, and bake another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve
    • Let rest 5 minutes before serving so the sauce sets.

Tips

  • Slice potatoes thinly and evenly for even cooking.
  • Use a mandoline slicer if available.
  • For extra flavor, add garlic, thyme, or paprika.
  • Make ahead: Assemble and refrigerate; bake just before serving.

✅ Bottom Line: Classic scalloped potatoes are creamy, cheesy, and comforting—a perfect side for roasts, chicken, or holiday dinners.

I can also give a low-calorie version using milk alternatives and less cheese if you want a lighter option. Do you want me to do that?
