Here’s a simple, hearty slow cooker meatballs and potatoes recipe—great for an easy, filling meal.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef (or chicken)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- Salt, black pepper, paprika (to taste)
- 4–5 medium potatoes (peeled, cut into chunks)
- 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional, for richness)
- 1 tsp dried oregano or mixed herbs
- ½–1 cup water or broth
- 1–2 tbsp oil
Instructions
1. Make the meatballs
In a bowl, mix ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, half the onion, salt, and spices.
Form into small balls.
2. Lightly brown (optional but better flavor)
Heat oil in a pan and quickly brown the meatballs on all sides (2–3 minutes). This step adds taste but you can skip it.
3. Layer in the slow cooker
- Add potatoes at the bottom
- Place meatballs on top
- Sprinkle remaining onion over everything
4. Add sauce
Mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, herbs, and water/broth. Pour over.
5. Cook
- Low: 6–7 hours
- High: 3–4 hours
Until potatoes are soft and meatballs cooked through.
Optional add-ins
- Carrots or peas
- A pinch of chili flakes for heat
- Fresh coriander or parsley at the end
Serving ideas
- With warm flatbread or rice
- Or just as-is for a one-pot meal
Tips
- If the sauce is thin at the end, leave the lid slightly open for 20–30 minutes
- For a richer taste, add a little butter at the end
If you want, I can adjust this to a spicy Pakistani-style version or a lighter version for weight loss.
