If you hear ringing in your ear, this is a sign that you are going to suffer…

…that you are going to suffer? That’s a very old superstition, but it isn’t medically true.

Ringing in the ears is usually called tinnitus (or sometimes temporary ear ringing). It can happen for lots of normal, non-mystical reasons, such as:

  • Exposure to loud noise (concerts, headphones, machinery)
  • Earwax buildup
  • Stress or fatigue
  • Ear infections or fluid changes
  • Certain medications
  • Blood pressure changes

Most of the time, it’s not a sign of anything supernatural or predictive—just a signal that something in the hearing system is temporarily off.

When it does matter

You should get it checked if:

  • It lasts more than a few days
  • It keeps coming back often
  • It affects only one ear strongly
  • It comes with dizziness, hearing loss, or pain

Otherwise, occasional ringing is very common and usually harmless.

If you want, tell me how often you’re experiencing it and I can help narrow down the likely cause.
