New method: colonoscopy will no longer be an invasive examination. (1/2)

Posted on July 16, 2026 by Admin

The statement “colonoscopy will no longer be an invasive examination” refers to developing or alternative technologies that aim to reduce or avoid the need for a traditional colonoscopy, but it is not currently true that colonoscopy has been replaced altogether.

Traditional colonoscopy involves inserting a flexible camera into the colon to examine the bowel lining. Newer approaches being studied or used in some settings include:

  • CT colonography (“virtual colonoscopy”) — a non-invasive imaging test that uses CT scans to look for polyps or abnormalities. It does not require a camera to enter the colon, but it still usually requires bowel preparation and may require a traditional colonoscopy if something suspicious is found.
  • Stool-based screening tests — such as fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) and stool DNA tests, which look for signs of cancer or abnormal cells without an internal examination.
  • Capsule endoscopy technologies — swallowable cameras that travel through the digestive tract; colon capsule systems exist but are not yet a universal replacement for colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy remains important because it can both detect and remove precancerous polyps during the same procedure, which many non-invasive tests cannot do.

If you’re referring to a specific “new method” from a news article or video, share the link or the rest of the text (“(2/2)”), and I can help check what technology it describes and whether the claim is accurate.
